What is A balm?

An all-natural, botanically-infused mixture of butters, oils and waxes. A Balm is a traditional skin care topical used since the dawn of humankind.

Why should I balm?

Simply put, Balming is good for the skin! Unlike synthetic moisturizers, Balms act as a skin protectant, emollient, and humectant. Balms reinforce the skin’s natural acid mantle layer, sealing in hydration that would otherwise be lost to the ambient environment. Our handcrafted Balms offer rich, gentle, all-natural topical care.

What can the balm do for me?

All of our Balms are created from the same batch-made base. This allows them to be used interchangeably for a variety of common uses based on need or fragrance preference.

Suggestions for daily, general Balm use:

  • For routine care on dry hands, elbows, knees, and feet.

  • For facial use, to soften, protect, and shine. Particularly effective in harsh weather.

  • For general body care, apply after a shower to maintain smooth, soft, lustrous skin.

  • For minor scrapes, cuts, and burns. Can soothe, protect, and help optimize healing.

  • For personal care needs, to ease and protect those sensitive, chafed areas.

  • For daily hair care, as an overnight conditioner and daily styling tool. Lightly comb though washed, damp hair. Also works great to tame fly-aways.

  • For daily Beard care, to soften, groom, and protect the underlying skin.

  • For routine Lip care: Simple, gentle, all-natural protection.

  • For Tattoo care. Harnesses the rich, protective benefits of Calendula, Shea Butter, and Beeswax.

  • As an aftershave to naturally soothe and replenish freshly-shaven skin.

How do I apply balm?

Our Balms are firm and tactile, with a smooth, rich texture, and limited greasiness. Using one or two fingertips, firmly but smoothly press through and along the Balm surface allowing the desired amount to accumulate in a small curl. One can gently apply Balm directly to the desired site, or first rub between both hands allowing to melt into a thin, applicable layer.

Can my sensitive skin tolerate the balm?

Our Balms contain only all-natural ingredients traditionally used for skin care and wellness. We choose essential oils based on their limited capacity to sensitize and low photo-toxicity. We also shy away from heavily warming or cooling topicals, favoring those with more subtle, long-lasting effects. However, some individuals may experience a sensitivity reaction to a particular essential oil. As always, we recommend patch testing any Balm on a small area of skin prior to general us.

What’s that in my balm?

Our batch-made botanical infusions are at the heart of our Balm’s rich and gentle texture. As the infusions are minimally filtered, an occasional particle of dried Calendula Flower or Vanilla Bean may make its way into the final product. This is to be expected and in no way compromises the quality or safety of the Balm.

I left my balm in the sun, what happened?

Our all-natural Balms are heat sensitive, with an average melting point of roughly 100 degrees F. This means they can have a notably different texture depending on the time of year. Balm that has been repeatedly exposed to heat may undergo significant physical changes. Even under normal ambient conditions, Balm texture may become waxy or grainy over time. We do not recommend leaving Balm in the car on a warm day.

How do i make my balm beautiful again?

To refresh overexposed Balm, it should first be gently melted. To do this, we suggest placing the closed tin in simmering water and/or pouring a cup of boiling water slowly over the closed tin, and allow the Balm to sit for 10 minutes. Alternatively one can scoop out the Balm from the tin and melt in either a double-boiler or the microwave in a glass container.

Once the Balm has been melted, it’s time to chill. Place the melted Balm in the freezer for 15 minutes, then remove the Balm and let it sit out overnight. This should restore the Balm’s smooth and firm texture.

Always remember to store your Balm in a cool, dry place. (Do not apply open flame to tin.)
